2012 Black Frame Art Sale News

Black Frame Sale

After eight successful years of hosting the Black Frame Art Sale, the Bayside Neighborhood Association (BNA) has reluctantly decided to suspend this event. The Bayside neighborhood is changing, and the BNA has determined that we need to spend the next year doing some important Board work through revisiting our mission and Strategic Plan; reevaluating our programming and fundraising strategies; and creating an active plan to move forward to prioritize and fulfill our goals. Part of this process includes evaluating our events and determining how best to focus our efforts.

We greatly appreciate the contributions of the artists and sponsors who have contributed to the sale over the years. We especially extend our thanks to Lisa and Jim Castonia, co-owners of Grapheteria, whose time, energy, dedication and support have been critical to the success of this event. We would also like to thank all the members of the Black Frame Art Sale Committee, and especially: Tom Blackburn, a founding member and former Chair of BFAS who raised thousands of dollars in sponsorships over the course of the last eight years; Gael May McKibben, also a founding member of BFAS; artist Anastasia Weigle for her tireless leadership as the Curatorial Committee Chair; and Melinda Titus for her role in coordinating the event.  Thanks also to Avery Kamila, Brenda Grant-Hayes and Janice Dunwoody for their time and energy, and to all the many other volunteers over the years who have contributed.

As the BNA moves forward, we are keeping in mind the essential role the arts play in building the character of Portland and its neighborhoods; we anticipate that BNA will create future opportunities for artists to participate in arts-based events that contribute to neighborhood development.

Again, we are very grateful for the strong support of the artists and sponsors in making the annual Black Frame Art Sale one of the best annual art shows and fundraisers in Portland.   This event has strengthened the Bayside community and provided essential support for the BNA and the Bayside neighborhood.

Thank you!
